Good point, Soham. As you implied, right now the main driver is the other kind of green (money) than real green (environment) imperative.

Okay a digression, but still worth a thought.

In computing, although throughput [of a processor] has been a major point of design concern, but in today’s embedded systems[including PS2 and Xbox] the power consumption is a huge design factor. Importantly, quite a lot of dollars and yens has been spent on it, which is effectively pushing people towards smaller geometries. [It remains to be seen, the efficacy of 45nm]

But the point is, purely from a technological perspective, devices which consume the least power is going to get a thumbs up both from the community side and the developer side.

Thanks, Brian. I quickly browsed through FireFox extensions. While there are plenty of good extensions to get rid of the ads, I haven’t found anything that talks about blocking the in-line ad – this is the ad that pops up at the bottom while the video is being played.
